I had a very similar problem last year - I bought dwarf beans as my vegetable patch is only around 4ft wide. However, these rapidly became triffids climbing easily up to around 6ft. The packet definitely states they are a 'dwarf' variety - they were certainly very pretty, but no 5th start as I wanted a bush....

This was in no way a dwarf plant in my Yorkshire garden. It topped the 6' fence and climbed over into next door's elder bush faster than the blink of an eye. Well, almost. It's a bit of a Jack-and-the-Beanstalk story; the leaves were up to 5" across & 7" long (I just measured one). I'm wondering now if the seeds were actually Solista that somehow ended up in the wrong packet? The pods are a thing of beauty, in fact the whole plant is; not quite English, somehow, but very pretty. I've been harvesting the pods that rattle today (ie dried beans), as the sample I took when the pods looked to be ready at the start of September turned out to be still green--though I have to say even those were pleasant to eat, tasting vaguely like young broad beans. The number of beans per pod today ranged from 3 to 8, with the majority of pods holding 5 or 6 beans, and yes they do look like proper Borlottis now. This would have been a 5 star review if I was certain I had the seeds stated on the packet (I do still have the packet) and the packet didn't say "Dwarf" on it. If only my runners had done this well!
