Growing Calendar for Dierama Argyreum x3 Plants
Delivery: Early May to Early June
Affectionately-named angel’s fishing rod, the white bell-shaped flowers hang from the tips of long arching stems. Lovely too add to the garden or vegetable plot for colour and to attract pollinating insects.
Numerous silver buds open to white flowers gracefully swaying in the breeze. Will bring your garden elegance and grace year after year.
We’d recommend you plant 2 young plants to a container with a 12in (30cm) diameter for creating maximum colour and impact, or at the front of a flowerbed in sun or shade.
Plant up several pots and baskets of 2-3 plants for a sight to behold. Pots dotted around the patio will really impress guests – and for such little effort. Flower return year after year.
Grow in pots with compost suitable for bedding to ensure the plants have the best soil to grow and thrive in. If you grow them in flower beds mix some compost in with the existing soil to give your flowers the best soil to grow in.
If you grow in flowerbeds space plants around 12in (30cm) apart. An area of a yard by a foot (1m by 30cm) will fit around 5 plants.
How your plants arrive
Your plants arrive to you as young plants containing a ‘plug’ of soil with roots running through it and some small green stems and leaves.
Although they are little plants they are the perfect size to get growing fast once you plant them up.
Your 3 flower plants will arrive to you in a plastic container with a lid (which acts as a mini-greenhouse) to create a good humid atmosphere for your young plants to thrive and get a really good start to produce you lovely flowers.
Your container comes in a box for extra protection when leaving our nursery to arriving at your home.
Check your plants are in the plastic container, with healthy young leaves.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cannot plant up your perennial flower plants straight away into their permanent position make sure the plugs of your plants are kept moist at all times.
You can place your plant on a saucer or tray of water so the plug is immersed at the beginning of the day. Keep an eye on it and take it out of the water once the soil is moist from absorbing the water beneath.
Keep your plant in a well-ventilated and light position in its plastic container after giving it water. Look to planting in their permanent position within 5-7 days.
Perennial plants are the mainstay of the flower garden; many will flower all summer, becoming dormant in autumn to reappear in spring. Perennials tend to be non-fussy plants and are easy to look after - they just need the old stems cutting back in late autumn, which helps to promote new stems and vigorous growth the following spring, getting bigger and better every year!
