This is a self-fertile fruit tree and is ideal for both culinary and dessert use.
It produces juicy, blue-black fruit with a blue bloom. The sweet yellow flesh has a good old-fashioned flavour.
Heavy cropper that will bear fruit early in its life.
Rootstock: St.Julian 'A'

Of the numerous items I ordered, this was the only one to come in a pot and with green growth. The tree was about 5 1/2 feet tall in a 2 litre pot. At first it grew slowly, but after two months is now getting into full gear. My only real criticism is that the tree was not very hardy. Two of the young branchlings have been blow off in the wind, so a sheltered spot is advised.
It is a year on now since I purchased and planted my Merryweather Damson and I am astounded by its progress. It looked a bit ropey when it was planted and didn't begin to sprout for a good three months, but once it began it looked fabulous, so don't lose hope. One year on and the crop, which followed a beautiful display of blossom, is surprisingly good. I expected a few small fruits, but there is about forty, plenty for a couple of jars of jam. The fruits are huge, easily mistaken for plums, and so far we have just eaten them off the tree they are so sweet and juicy, with just a hint of tartness in the skins. I can't wait to see the crop next year and if I had the room I would plant more. Possibly the best fruit tree I have ever purchased. Thank you marshalls xxx
My damson tree, Merryweather, arrived this morning. It is quite small which suits me well as I want it to get used to our soil right from the earliest stage AND it has just a few flowerbuds. I might let it produce one damson this year as a taste of things to come. My husband is delighted too as his favourite food is damson ice cream!
