Growing Calendar for Dahlia Norfolk Sunshine x3 Plants
Delivery: Early May to Mid June
Charming sunshine-yellow dahlias to adorn your garden or vegetable plot in summer. Plant in pots or in a row in your allotment to add welcome colour. Excellent for bringing in pollinators that will stick around to pollinate the flowers of beans and peas and tree fruit.
We’d recommend you plant 2 young plants to a basket or container with a 12in (30cm) diameter for creating maximum colour and impact, or in a sunny flowerbed spaced 20in (50cm) apart.
Plant up several pots of 2-3 plants for a sight to behold. Pots dotted around the patio will really impress guests – and for such little effort.
Grow in pots with compost suitable for bedding to ensure the plants have the best soil to grow and thrive in. If you grow them in flower beds mix some compost in with the existing soil to give your flowers the best soil to grow in.
If you grow in flowerbeds space plants around 12in (30cm) apart. An area of a yard by a foot (1m by 30cm) will fit around 10 plants.
How your plants arrive
Your plants arrive to you as young plants containing a ‘plug’ of soil with roots running through it and some small green stems and leaves.
Although they are little plants they are the perfect size to get growing fast once you plant them up.
Your 3 flower plants will arrive to you in a plastic container with a lid (which acts as a mini-greenhouse) to create a good humid atmosphere for your young plants to thrive and get a really good start to produce you lovely flowers.
Your container comes in a box for extra protection when leaving our nursery to arriving at your home.
Check your plants are in the plastic container, with healthy young leaves.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cannot plant up your perennial flower plants straight away into their permanent position make sure the plugs of your plants are kept moist at all times.
You can place your plant on a saucer or tray of water so the plug is immersed at the beginning of the day. Keep an eye on it and take it out of the water once the soil is moist from absorbing the water beneath.
Keep your plant in a well-ventilated and light position in its plastic container after giving it water. Look to planting in their permanent position within 5-7 days.
Summer-flowering bedding plants are perfect for planting in patio pots, hanging baskets and for filling spaces in borders. Some flower from as early as May, and last through to autumn, making them a gorgeous backdrop for garden parties and barbacues. You start planting and potting up in spring and transferring into containers or beds in early summer.
