A really good early cauliflower for sowing in autumn. Serac will crop from mid-May from an October sowing.

Produces very white, heavy curds with good protecting leaves. And what an excellent flavour.

The packet states that these can also be sown in May for October harvest, so (since the first lot failed to germinate) I threw caution to the winds and sowed a few directly in late June. This in Yorkshire, which had a cold but very dry summer. The late heatwave we had in September seems to have done the trick for at least half the crop; we ate the first one last week. Firm curds, cooked very nicely (no sogginess). Four stars rather than five because a) the germination rate wasn't as high as I'd have liked and b) the leaves are nowhere near covering the heads, so if you don't tie the leaves over you end up with suntanned (lightly pinked) caulis.
