It may look like a real novelty but in fact it is orange carrots that are the new-comers!

Wild carrots were purple, red, white or yellow and it was 17th century Dutch breeders who first produced the colour we know today.

Purple Haze is just as tasty as other Nantes types and is particularly sweet eaten raw in salads.

For early forcing, sow under frames or cloches in February as soil starts to warm. Make outdoor sowings March to April onwards.

Excellent colour and flavour. Also a very good cropper. I wil certainly be growing this variety again.

Good flavour & look wonderful chopped in salads. Little bit slower to mature than Sugarsnax planted at the same time in June. Would definitely recommend particularly for children or if you do a lot of entertaining

Carrot - Purple Haze Seeds 1020-2169

Deep purple colour with an orange core, very tasty!

Sow Outdoors:April-June thinly ½in (1cm) deep in shallow pre-watered drills, in soil that hasn't been manured in the last 12 months. Keep soil moist at all times.

Thin Out: 2-3in (5-8cm) apart. Avoid crushing the leaves as the scent attracts carrot root fly.

Harvest: September-March

Carrots do best on light, stone free, fertile soils. Stores well into winter.

Surround the carrot bed with a barrier of fleece at least 60cm high to keep low flying carrot root flies from your crop.

Very sweet eaten raw
