Not the easiest to grow. Only about a 60% germination, and I then sowed more seeds to fill in the gaps. But once we picked them, they were really delicious, and worth the effort. No carrot fly which was a relief.
I grew Nandor successfully in a large tub, which I find is an excellent way to produce carrots for pulling young, and to deter carrot fly. Nandor grew at a more leisurely pace than some other varieties, so it was a happy accident that the first young roots were ready when my Heracles carrots finished.
Good resistance to carrot fly.
Sow Outdoors: April-June thinly ½in (1cm) deep in shallow pre-watered drills, in soil that hasn't been manured in the last 12 months. Keep soil moist at all times.
Thin Out: 2-3in (5-8cm) apart. Avoid crushing the leaves as the scent attracts carrot root fly.
Harvest: Late May-November
Carrots do best on light, stone free, fertile soils.
Surround the carrot bed with a barrier of Insect net at least 60cm high to keep low flying carrot root fly from your crop.
It is qiuck to mature.
