I normally have problems with overwintering carrots in the ground, fly attacks making them inedible. You can imagine my surprise this year returning home after 3 months away to find these carrots in perfect condition, so good we have been able to eat them raw in salads. I am sowing them again this year and hope they do as well.

Carrot - Marion Seeds 1020-2178

Nantes type, with blunt tipped roots.

Sow Outdoors: February-June thinly ½in (1cm) deep in shallow pre-watered drills, in soil that hasn't been manured in the last 12 months. Keep soil moist at all times. (Protect early sowings with cloche or fleece).

Thin Out: 2-3in (5-8cm) apart. Avoid crushing the leaves as the scent attracts carrot root fly.

Harvest: June-September Carrots do best on light, stone free, fertile soils.

Surround the carrot bed with a barrier of polythene or fleece at least 60cm high to keep low flying carrot root fly from your crop.

Suitable for all year sowing
