Paul Pates
Paul Pates is Marshalls Head of Marketing, he joined the team in November 2009 and admits to being ‘a bit of a novice’ when it comes to vegetable growing. However, being a keen foodie and cook he’s embraced the ‘Grow Your Own’ revolution by using every inch of his small garden to grow vegetables that look as good as they taste.
His gardening world was turned upside down in autumn 2010 when he was offered a rather over-grown allotment in a small village about 10 miles from his home, having been on a waiting list for 4 years! He’s now attempting to grow all the veg that he didn’t have space for previously and spends most weekends trying not to ‘lose the plot’…

Under Attack from Mother Nature and Her Legions!OK – I’m now not a happy gardener. We haven’t had any meaningful rain for about 6 weeks now and despite one of the hottest April’s since the Big Bang, my potatoes have frost damage!

Bumble Bees, Bonfire and BeansWell, I certainly picked the right week to take-off on holiday! Despite my best intentions, I didn’t spend as much time on the plot as I would have wanted. Because it was half term, picnics, pub lunches and family activities were high on the list of priorities – it’s a hard life!

No Bonfire But Got Burnt Anyway!What a gorgeous weekend! Having had a bit of rain earlier in the week but nothing since, I was keen to get to the allotment early to give everything a good water.

One For The LadiesMy potatoes have chitted nicely and are ready to plant. The biggest problem was deciding what to choose, with so many fantastic varieties available it was difficult to make up my mind.

The story so far...It came as rather a shock when in September 2010 I had a call from the council asking if I was still interested in an allotment. I had been on the waiting list for 4 years and had completely forgotten all about it.
