6 SIMPLE STEPS to Bigger, Better Crops

01 June 2009 | Posted in Gardening by The Marshalls Family

What a fantastic time of year to get busy in the garden! Early summer produces rich harvests of young fresh new vegetables and masses of salads. But what next?

1 SOW SALADS
in Succession Throughout The Summer – for a continuous supply of wonderful textures and flavours sow small quantities of seed every 2-3 weeks.

2 MAKE USE OF THE ‘LONGEST DAY’ which is Peak Sowing Time for Oriental Veg – enjoy outstanding stir-fries and salads in less than 40 days!

3 SOW SECOND CROPS of Your Favourite Veg with Marshalls Quick Grow Varieties – tender French beans in September, peas in October, carrots for Christmas and tasty Fennel through much of winter.

4 PLAN NOW For Hardy Autumn and Winter Salads and a Wide Choice of Winter Brassicas – use space vacated by summer crops for extra cabbages, kales, broccoli, endives, chicory and radicchio.

5 ORDER Your Autumn Planting Onions and Garlic – Marshalls famous onion sets will give you longer lasting stocks next year!

6 RESERVE Soft Fruit for Summer and Early Autumn Planting – for a heavy crop of strawberries next year, plant Marshmello ‘Misted Tips’. These specially propagated plants can produce
up to 100% more fruit in the first year!

All of this, plus much more can be found in our summer catalogue which is due out mid June.
