A classic large leaved, aromatic Italian herb.

Excellent for fresh pesto! Use in salads especially with tomatoes, ideal in pasta sauces and goes really well with garlic.

Easy to grow in pots on the kitchen windowsill. Remove flowering shoots to increase the harvest of the leaves.

Grew outside on Isle of Skye under fleece. Extreme gardening but they are brilliant . Win every time. Companion to tomatoes and courgettes. Freeze in olive oil so they are ready for pasta.

These plants are easy growing, strong plants. I use the flowerheads to flavour my olive oil and it is amazing. It keeps me happy all summer long.

Superbly aromatic leaves are used in Mediterranean food.

Height: 18in (45cm)

Sow Indoors: All year round. 5-6 seeds around a clean 9cm pot of firm pre watered compost, cover with ¼in (½cm) of vermiculite or sieved compost. Place in warmth 15-20°C (60-70°F) and keep moist at all times.

Grow On: Plant pots of Basil outside when risk of frost has passed, 6in (15cm) apart.

Harvest: All Year Round. Protect plants from frost. Grows well on windowsills during winter.
