How you receive your asparagus plants
You receive your asparagus plants as crowns which look like green stubs attached to lots of roots. This is perfect for planting out now. These roots are covered in a little soil to keep them moist and kept in a plastic or newspaper wrap to prevent the crowns from drying out.
Can't plant straight away?
You can keep your asparagus crownsin their wrap for as long as 3-5 days so long as you make sure the soil part around the roots is kept moist.
Look to planting in their permanent position within 5 days.
Arrived on time and plants in good condition
Just totally excellent. See comment above
I was extremely upset to learn my asparagus crowns were covered in mould when I opened them up. I had to snip off lots of the roots that were badly affected and am left wondering if I will get a crop from them at all. In Marshalls defence, I did receive my plants roughly a week ago, but surely they could come up with a better idea of packaging than they used. They were delivered in sealed plastic bags inside a cardboard box, with no warning that they could perish if not opened promptly. I am left very disappointed in Marshalls.
