Growing Calendar for Aquilegia Vulgaris Winky 'Weah' x3 Plants
Delivery: Early May to Early June
Perfect for planting en masses in borders or patio containers. The clusters of many-petalled-flowers sit on delicate stems, while the fern-like foliage is abundant in late spring, taking over from your retreating spring bulbs.
We’d recommend you plant 3-5 flowers to a container for creating maximum colour and impact, or in the border for a bright and weed-smothering effect. Plant in beds about 12in (30cm) apart so your plants have room to grow and produce those lovely cottage-garden grannies bonnets.
Plant up several pots of 3-5 plants for a really impactful and splendidly-scented display.
Grow in pots with compost suitable for bedding to ensure the plants have the best soil to grow and thrive in.
If you grow them in flower beds mix some compost in with the existing soil to give your flowers the best soil to grow in. 25-30 plants will fill a space of about a square yard (square metre).
How your plants arrive
Each of your flowers arrives to you as young plants containing a ‘plug’ of soil with roots running through them and some small green stems and leaves.
Although they are little they are the perfect size to get growing fast once you plant them up.
Your flower plants will arrive to you in a plastic container with a lid (which acts as a mini-greenhouse) to create a good humid atmosphere for your young plants to thrive and geta really good start to produce you lovely flowers.
Your container comes in a box for extra protection when leaving our nursery to arriving at your home.
Check your 3 plants are there in the plastic container, according to your order.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cannot plant up your perennial flower plants straight away into their permanent position make sure the plugs of your plants are kept moist at all times.
You can place your plants on a saucer or tray of water so the plugs are immersed at the beginning of the day. Keep an eye on them and take them out of the water once the soil is moist from absorbing the water beneath.
Keep your flowers in a well-ventilated and light position in their plastic container after giving them water. Look to planting in their permanent position within 5-7 days.
Perennial plants are the mainstay of the flower garden; many will flower all summer, becoming dormant in autumn to reappear in spring. Perennials tend to be non-fussy plants and are easy to look after - they just need the old stems cutting back in late autumn, which helps to promote new stems and vigorous growth the following spring, getting bigger and better every year!
