Growing Calendar for Allium atropurpureum - Allium Bulbs
Delivery: Late September to Late November
The Allium atropurpureum bulbs produce deep pink and purple flower heads which add a new dimension to any border especially when mixed with other plants.
Flowering in late-spring/early-summer, this allium bulb grows to hover above the border with its berry colours adding a deep contrast to other blooms. It also makes excellent cut flowers or, for the large flowers, it is ideal for drying to make a floral arrangement.
We suggest that you try mixing the Allium bulbs with grasses or team them with achilleas and daisies to give the bees a real treat!
Other pollinators and insects also love the alliums', as their spectacular drumstick takes over from the tulips and irises to flower their way through to high summer. They also look amazing teamed with roses and other summer perennials; it?s hard to believe that they are members of the humble onion family! Alliums are showy, hardy plants that give a marvellous display year after year.
